Accounting & Network Payments

submit to affiliates4u

Once a quarter I have a day where I catch up on all my accounts and do my VAT return and I always hate it :( Almost there now though but it’s always quite a long day to get all the paperwork together. Here are a few things I noticed today that I probably already knew but didn’t think were significant at first.

  • Affiliate Window pay out twice a month – that really is a leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else and should be recognised
  • For the first quarter in well over a year Commission Junction managed to get all their VAT invoices to me in time to complete my return. Now I just need the invoice to correspond to the £ figure paid into my account instead of a $ amount and I’ll be totally happy :)
  • I hardly make anything at all from the big networks like TD & CJ now although they used to be my main earners. I’m working with fewer networks than I used to and mostly with newer networks.
  • The actual number of programs I am working with at any decent level is around 6. I used to work with loads more programs on a much wider approach but I think a narrow focus is more important than it used to be

I think it would be interesting to get a comparison of each network and how quickly they will pay so that’s something I might look at in the future. It would also be good to know which networks are actively protecting their affiliates against incidents like this one.

Never going to happen CJ is a US company interested in US Affiliates and I doubt very much they will give any development time to the UK Affiliates to make this very simple change for them. If you a Merchant reading this, UK Affiliates want to work with companies who pay in UK pounds to all there UK Affiliates so please make sure your program can be found on a network that is decent enough to pay all the UK Affiliates in UK Pounds.

By the way nothing wrong with Affiliate Window paying twice a month, but when you have 3 accounts it’s a pain to have so much paper work if you take this and multiply all the other Networks, so I like to see an option to just be paid once a month. Note that some people will say, just get 1 account and to them I point out I have multi-sites with multi-staff and sadly need the extra accounts due to the way AW is setup for using. Mind you I am totally dropping CJ and DGM fully soon so that a little bit less paper work :)

With regards to payment lead times, Paid On Results will be announcing something pretty interesting in the not so distant future now that Paid On Results has started the process to migrate over to Bank of Scotland Corporate banking away with Lloyds TSB who frankly have an out of date Internet system that is not up to the job for modern online companies.

Yeah I can see your point about choosing your payment frequency and how that would be helpful.

Make sure you keep us up to date with what Paid on Results are planning regarding payments.
