Affiliate Summit Day Three
Once again I’m a day out with the official timings but it’s the third day I have been here even if it’s only the second day offical day of Affiliate Summit. Last night I headed to the Affiliate Singalong event which had some great musicians, some good singers and some really bad ones. Wayne Porter has a whole heap of photos so I won’t bother including mine from that event. I had a good chat with Carsten Cumbrowski which was great however I managed to completely miss Jess Luthi who told me the following morning that she was just at the next table. Sorry Jess
This morning started with the keynote speech from Michael Sanchez of clubmom.com and I was impressed with his willingness to consider different metrics to relate to affiliate payouts. i.e. he knows he makes more from someone who returns to the site within 72 hours or someone who racks up 10 page views instead of 2 so he can reward affiliates accordingly. It was a great example of what is possible when everything about your marketing can be measured.
I moved on to the first session and made a quick room change after finding my initial choice of talk to be at a bit of a basic level. It was also strange to see the recommendation to try t-shirt marketing, leaflets etc straight after the great endorsement from Michael Sanchez to measure and control everything. I switched to the SEO session run by Wil Reynolds from Seer and I was very impressed. He recommended a whole bunch of great SEO’s tools which I hadn’t heard of but more than that he is a very good communicator and so it was an entertaining session.
We then took a trip round the exhibition hall and I was totally amazed at the number of networks there are over here - is there really room for them all? Do they all have something unique to offer?
Lunch was great and then we took in another seminar. Later in the day I went along to Networking Bingo which was good fun although it was quite a random collection of contacts. Loads of people were telling me they want to do more work in the UK though so that could be interesting in the future.
In the evening we headed to the party at Tryst which was great, especially the ice cream although the whole thing did finish too early and also I heard something about goodie bags but I never saw one
We headed over to Jet at Mirage after that and now it’s the end of a very long day.
I’ve got a whole load of stuff to post about the crossover between UK & US affiliate marketing but it’s going to have to wait till tomorrow at least.
