Affiliate Summit - Final Day
Well the final day started a bit late for me but the session on domain names by Monte Cahn from Moniker was excellent. Some interesting stats
- 70% of people use direct navigation first i.e. type the address they want into the address bar and this is up from 53% 4 years ago. The result is that type-in traffic is increasing along with the value of domains.
- 10% of domains are now parked on a PPC related page.
I was also surprised that you can now get a mortgage for a domain name! Monte also spoke about how important he thinks the .mobi extension will become so I need to look into this when I get back.
The second session I got to was about landing pages. Most of it was reinforcing the basic principles but it was certainly worth getting a refresher course to make sure I stay focussed on building pages the right way. There was also a lot of encouragement to build up mailing lists so again this is something I will need to look into more as it’s an area I have neglected.
Later on we headed out for some food over to Rio and then went a bit of shopping at the Fashion Show Mall. No pictures today unfortunately - heading out to see the sights now so I’ll have some for tomorrow
p.s.
Dear America
Scotland is not in England. Scottish people are not English. Please don’t suggest otherwise as I can be a bit touchy about this.

Love the blog updates Fraser.
Monte Cahn is one of my heros - you’re lucky to have seen the man in the flesh. Actually, no, he’s the lucky one for having seen fantastic Fraser in the flesh

“Dear America

You didn’t do The Proclaimers at the singalong did you? Then they would have known there is a difference!
p.s. a video of your hotel and room would be nice.

Dear Fraser,
America is not a country, it’s a continent. Or two continents perhaps.
Or is it that actress in Ugly Betty?
Enjoying the updates from Vegas.

Thanks Nadeem
You really are too kind!
Chris - I’ve got a bunch of room photos I’ll put online, the video might have been a good idea before I messed the room up. It’s the coolest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in though!

Thanks Richard
I did think about that as I was out and about today and I knew someone would pick me up on it!

> Well the final day started a bit late for me…
Hey Fraser - we started the same time both days. Roundtable discussions were before the breakout sessions on Tuesday.

Hi Shawn - yeah, sorry what I meant was that I slept in that day and ended up getting up late.

Monte is cool. He interviewed me on his webcast show Domain Master and it was a great honor for me.
As for domains, and “ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS” — I am the executive producer of the DOMAIN ROUNDTABLE CONFERENCE, which will be held in Seattle, Washington this summer. It will be the third event, bigger, better, more innovative and with surprise guests and topics that will break the domain industry wide open. More info to come, but it will be produced with domainers profits as the sole focus — get ready to get your ticket and network with the biggest names in the industry.
Feel free to contact me for more information at stephen@domainroundtable.com

It’s ONE continent divided into 3 parts, North America, South America and Central America… … Brits
Oops, now I also got the Welsh into the mix and some Irish Folk

Hi Fraser,
I hope you’re able to share a bit on what all this is about at BarCampScotland. I’ve been following the blog and would love to see how this industry works in a bit more detail. Cheers!
