Affiliate Trends

This week Google released Google Trends which allows you to compare search terms and see their relative popularity. It’s a shame there are no actual figures attached but it’s interesting all the same. For example [tradedoubler, commission junction] generates this graph where we can see that it’s pretty even all the way. Tradedoubler shown in blue, Commission Junction in red.

Tradedoubler got a heap more interest late in 2005 but I think this is connected to their recent IPO. One problem is the variation on search terms and I guess Commission Junction will quite often be searched for as CJ too. It’s interesting to see that within Europe CJ is almost not present and it’s only in the UK that they really offer any competition although that might be on the way down too.

It’s a really interesting tool here are some other searches

With regard to the yahoo, msn, google query, it gets more interesting when you consider this is trends on what people are entering into Google’s search box. Why are so any people searching for Google on Google? (possibly things like Google maps, desktop, etc which arn’t obviously linked to)

Also queries like yahoo.com, when compared against other searches, shows how many people type domain names into the Google search box.

Have a look at Adsense,Adwords and you’ll see they are pretty closely tied but in India Adsense is much higher recently.

Great point Rich – It hadn’t actually clicked with me how strange it was for people to search for Google on Google!

It’s a great tool. Thanks for the info. It;s interesting the curve on the graph, and what happened to create that spike!
