Amazon aStore

Just been playing around with this feature and it’s quite handy. Still not the biggest fan of the Amazon program due to the very limited cookie length but this is certainly a nice way to create content. Here are a few books that are currently sitting on my bookshelf :) Any comments on any of these?

  1. [...] A recent post about Amazon aStore on one level was quite trivial although it did give you an insight into some of the books that are on my shelf However more than that it showed me what a lack of innovation there has been in the last year from our UK based affiliate networks compared to something like this. Looks very nice Fraser!

Maybe change the light brown background to aqua colour used elsewhere on your site – if that is possible?

If anybody has US websites, I would recommend they use aStore until Xmas as Amazon.com are offering a generous 4% bonus. Pity Amazon UK are not offering that.

Made that change as suggested Nadeem – cheers :) Have you read any of those books?

Amazon UK are offering a £1000 prize for the best integration which is a nice incentive but I think the 4% bonus for all affiliates is a better deal.

Now looks like it is part of your website – wouldn’t know it was a content unit.

I haven’t read any of those books. Two or of them look fascinating and I’ll add them to my list… after the 400 others I’m going to read if I ever get to retire from affiliate marketing :)

Is that really whats on your bookshelf?
I have THE SEARCH as it came recommended to me by one of my team members ‘Down Sou’ff’. Haven’t yet got round to reading it… maybe I’ll take it to Vegas for those early nights!

Yep they are all on the shelf, somehere amongst a pile of other books. I read a lot but probably buy more than I manage to read! Although I’ve read or at least referred to all of these books. Don’t you like my choices Frostie ;)

I have the ebook version of the adwords one though.

BTW, Amazon.co.uk have also started giving the 5% bonus on aStores until the end of the year. So I would recommend affiliates push them hard until 31 December.

Just a note, you’ve made the same mistake as I did (or maybe you meant to :) . If you click on a product, the product details page is far too long for the i-frame and gets cut off, possibly missing vital information off the end. It’s a pain in the neck, because if you want to allow the maximum possible length for your astore, you can’t put anything underneath, like the blog comments you have here, because it has to be, like 4000 pixels long, as you can see on my page, and you get a huge unuseable empty space below (click my name above to see this horror).

markowe – yeah I know what you mean and I don’t quite know how to get round it either.

I noticed that even someone who knows more about the amazon affiliate program than most is suffering from the same problem

It would be great if we could use a php include or something like that instead.

Right, or there is some talk of a javascript that might be able to do it. Bit too techie for most of us though…

Is there anyway to reduce the size of whats in the iframe so that i am not losing text outside that box?! Help!!

Ryan, you mean without increasing the width of your template? Sorry, nope. The only thing you can do is select “Hide category navigation.” on the main Astore editing section and get rid of the search/navigation bar altogether, but I doubt you will want to do this.

This is a major problem with AStore in that you can’t get anything else on your site once you’ve put an aStore on there! One very basic option they could have introduced a long time ago would be to allow you to define the dimensions of your aStore, but why they haven’t is beyond me!

I am working on a complete revamp of my site (well, it was never very “vamped” anyway) for which I will definitely be abandoning aStore and using Joomla + the Amazon Products Feed Bridge (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=4&url=http%3A%2F%2Fextensions.joomla.org%2Fcomponent%2Foption%2Ccom_mtree%2Ftask%2Cviewlink%2Flink_id%2C29%2FItemid%2C35%2F&ei=_qVNRsXaNZea-QKx58nwDA&usg=AFrqEzdiBYEOw4axaKCMRFtzHksH8_pccQ&sig2=DiYdpHlQksf_8ILMXaugtQ)
or you could try Associate-o-Matic (http://www.affiliateomatic.com/).
