Blogger’s Block
I haven’t been writing as much on this blog recently partly due to not having the same spare time in a week and partly due to trying to get on with some real work instead.
I think I also got a bit fed up with complaining about the same old things that don’t change and it doesn’t seem as much fun to write about the affiliate marketing industry anymore so I thought I should probably try to write more about what I’ve actually been doing.
I’ve chosen to take some work again from a couple of old web development clients which really keeps things interesting. Just working on the same things each day and not getting out the office is a bit dull at times so it’s always good to keep up with a few different businesses.
I’ve also started a couple of new sites in field that I’m really interested in but don’t yet know too much about – wine! I’ve always enjoyed an occasional glass but I’ve never known what I was drinking or why I liked it so I thought it was time to find out and develop some sites along the way. This led me to starting a site about White Wine and one about Red Wine.
I’ve been using WordPress and the Thesis theme for these sites. Thesis is more of a framework to build on than the usual style of designed theme but it makes all the updates easy and is a great starting point. Definitely Recommended

Hi Fraser,
Thought I’d comment on
“I think I also got a bit fed up with complaining about the same old things that don’t change and it doesn’t seem as much fun to write about the affiliate marketing industry anymore so I thought I should probably try to write more about what I’ve actually been doing.”
I hear you here. Affiliate Marketing is a funny old industry, I love it still however though we’ve seen great change in some aspects of AM, other areas appear to have an in-ability to change.
Please don’t stop altogether though!
Best of luck with your new projects, agree they are awesome domains.
Matt

Hello there,
I haven’t found this site before, it’s great to know there are British AMers. Of course I was aware that we existed in the UK but it is a area dominated by US affiliate marketers.
I am fairly new to affiliate marketing so I am not ready to complain about things that won’t change or otherwise.
I do like the look of your new sites, wordpress is fantastic in some respects. I do find it loads really slowly though.
I look forward to visiting here again,
Best wishes with your new sites,
Ruth

Those sites look great. I myself am a Red Wine drinker but share your level of knowledge… I know I like it, not sure why, but I love to learn more. Good luck with your sites.
On the bloggers block – I get that a lot. What has helped, on this side of the pond for me at least, is that when I have an idea for a blog, I put together a draft right away. The draft may just be a title, but it’s there. Then when I feel I should be writing, I go back to those drafts. Having those ideas on “paper” seems to help spark my imagination.
Keep up the fight!

Tips for beating blogger’s block :-
1. Lower your standards
2. Start with a headline
3. End with a deadline
4. Eliminate distractions
5. Write at dawn, not at dusk

I also agree with you on the affiliate industry atm, I think its very hard to try and be supportive to affiliates when a growing proportion are giving the good affiliates a bad name in the eyes of the press/the merchants/search engines, its very hard sometimes, especially when I see some of the things affiliates say and do to remain on their side.
What I always do is try to think about all the good affiliates out there who run blogs, speak at conferences etc. These people are worth your time blogging because you know they’ll appreciate what your talking about, even if it is a bit moany.

I think you have made a good decision to take a break instead of forcing it. Sometimes you need to take a leap into the unknown and it is a lot more interesting if you can learn something (that you want to learn) along the way.
I had thought of creating a whisky blog at one time but worried that i would just use it as an excuse to spend more time in the boozer (especially if i actually believed i knew what i was talking about).
Think whiskey.com is taken however – yeah good domain names.

You could always try drinking some of your wine to start the ideas rolling and cure the block? lol!
