I’d like to welcome Netklix as a sponsor of the blog. Netklix is a PPC advertising network, similar to Adwords content network where you can create an ad and run it across a network of sites. It operates on a PPC basis but instead of matching on a keyword basis it’s based on matching ‘channels’ or subject areas.

I signed up my Car Articles blog as a test site and picked 10 subject areas that fitted the content. This didn’t take long and I was then able to place ads with that are similar to adsense by using a snippet of Javascript code. An example is here

http://www.cararticles.co.uk/uk-audi-q7.html

The only downside here is that there doesn’t yet seem to be a lot of advertisers in my particular sector.

On the advertiser side the ad formats are fairly similar to adwords and the bids start at 10p. You need to open the account with a deposit of at least £19 so it’s a relatively low commitment to allow you to try the system. There is also a £100 Free Advertising offer running at the moment so you could take advantage of that.

Like any network, Netklix will have to continue to attract advertisers but all in all it would be well worth a look. In the early stages especially you’ll have more chance of getting traffic at minimum bids.

Hello,

It was good to speak to you earlier regarding Merchant X, I’m glad to hear you’re keen to give them a bit of a push over the coming months!

I was amused to get this email as my new assistant is an answering machine. No idea how good it is at SEO but I’ll be impressed if it can register a domain name

While I wait to record a new podcast (which I have set a date for!) I thought it might be worth a quick review of some of the best of the old podcasts in case there was any you missed and might like to listen to. For starters here are some interview with affiliates. When I look back at this list it’s been great to speak to some great affiliates but I also realise I don’t think I’ve spoken to enough so I’ll need to fix that and stop speaking to networks so much!

I haven’t blogged for a while and it’s mostly been down to a lack of time. Becoming a parent has led to less working hours in the day and so a few things have slipped. The following set up is not ideal for getting work done

I realised that last year I probably spent more time writing, talking and recording stuff about affiliate marketing than I actually spent being an affiliate so this year I’ve been trying to refocus and get back to building a few good quality websites and picking up on a few things that I have neglected. I do want to get back to blogging though and focus on some good quality content like Jason has been turning out for months now.

The podcasting is less certain as I think that many people are just too busy to find the time to take part, not talking about anyone in particular I wonder if people are too busy to listen as well? It takes the best part of a day to setup, record, edit & publish a podcast so it’s not always easy to fit in a week.

I think I’ll look to restart with a much shorter format soon, probably just a 10 minute show with minimal editing. There are some great people out there that we can all learn from so hopefully reducing the time commitment means I can get back to providing some content.

In the meantime I’m going to post soon with answers to a few emails that I have received to the blog over the last few weeks.

And if you are still reading and haven’t unsubscribed due to a lack of anything new than thanks – I really appreciate that!

Happy New Year! So I’ve had a bit of an extended Christmas break due to a couple of weeks of planned holiday followed by a week of looking after an ill baby but now it’s time to get back to work and in January that’s sometimes a bit tricky to find the motivation but I have a couple of new ideas that I’m looking forward to getting my teeth into.

However more than just wanting to get back to work on my own affiliate stuff I want to kick start the blog and podcast again as it got pretty quiet in the last quarter of 2007 apart from a great podcast with John Lamerton and the modcast. Like many others recently I’ve also got hold of a bit more video equipment so I hope to put that to use soon too.

With all that in mind I want to remind myself of what I’m supposed to be writing, podcasting, video blogging about and that’s where I need help from my valued readers & listeners.

What sort of stuff do you want to hear about? Is it how to make money online? Is it more comment about the affiliate marketing industry? social media? All of the above? I know that the audience is a real mixture from friends who know nothing about affiliate marketing to affiliates with years more experience than me so I’m looking for some input from everyone about what you want to know about affiliate marketing in 2008.

Who would you like to hear on a podcast this year? Is the one-on-one interview format better or do you prefer the group discussion like in the modcast? Any other podcast comments or feedback? Anyone interested in taking part?

Any interest in video? Don’t worry that would be more likely to be screencasts and interviews of others than me sitting in my office

All comments are gratefully received and best wishes to you all for 2008

I am very grateful to them all for their support – thanks!

I do have a space available for a new sponsor now so please get in touch if you are interested in advertising on the blog & podcast.

I’m half way through recording a podcast with John Lamerton but technical problems yesterday meant we didn’t finish the interview but I hope to get that sorted out and published soon.

A couple of people have asked how they can keen up to date with any new posts or podcasts that are made on the blog. There are a few ways you can subscribe. It’s important to note that subscribe doesn’t mean it costs you any money! It just means you can keep in touch with any new information without always visiting the blog

E-mail Subscription

At the right hand side in the footer of each page you can see an email subscription box. Enter your address here, make sure you confirm your address by clicking the link in the confirmation email and then you will receive a daily email of any new posts that I make.

itunes subscription

If you only want to get the podcasts and you want to use them with your ipod then use this link to subscribe in itunes.

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=163301265

RSS Subscription

This is the most effective and flexible way to subscribe to my blog. If you don’t know what RSS is then watch this video first

Click To Play

Then you can use the feed to subscribe using a blog reader, add the feed to your personalised home page or use live bookmarks in Firefox. There are dozens of ways you can read my blog content without having to remember to visit the site so please do use one of these options to subscribe (for free!)

After starting the process a while ago, I now have a new theme in place that I’m really pleased with so it’s a big thank you to Hussain So if you are a regular RSS reader it would be great if you clicked through today and had a look at the new design so that I can get some feedback

There are still a few things to tweak and get back in place from the old theme but it would be great to hear any feedback on the new look.

The main change is to try and seperate out the podcasts from the rest of the content so that it’s easier to get at them and subscribe to them. I’m also moving over to feedburner for handling the email subscription instead of the current plugin so email subscribers may notice some slight differences.

I have also switched to using the Spam Karma 2 plugin so if you have any problems making a comment etc then please drop me a line as I’m keen to make sure it doesn’t cause any problems for genuine comments!
