I’ve just started buying domains again! I tried to stop a while ago but I’ve cracked and gone back to reading lists of expired domains and buying a few that sound catchy. Nothing outstanding so far but I view it as a long term investment. With that in mind I was pleased to get an email from Richard Kershaw letting me know about a new firefox extension he has just released. The domain lookup firefox extension allows you to select a phrase on a page and then easily check if the domain is available. It’s a nice shortcut to save retyping phrases or copy, pasting and removing spaces. Nice one Richard

Here are a few other handy domain related resources

Forums
DNforum
Acorn Domains

Dropcatching
Caught
Dropcatcher
(any tips on how to catch a domain when these two already have it booked?)

Buying & Selling
Sedo

Parking
Just read about these two on Doug’s Mouthpiece so I’ll take a look at them this week.
Domain Parking
iMODO

Registrars
Daily.co.uk – my current favourite after getting fed up with 123-REG

Any other good domain resources to add to that short list?

I use 123-reg for a lot of my domain registrations and they used to be pretty good. Great prices, decent enough support when you needed it and full control of your domain. It seems lately they’ve been having lots of problems though and an old post of mine 123-Reg Problems – Approach with Care is gathering loads of comments from disgruntled users.

So here’s a quick question for other affiliate marketers who I’m sure have the condition known as Domain Name Buying Addictivitis. Where is the best place to manage a pile of domain names? It would be a huge hassle to move from 123-Reg but it might be a whole lot more hassle to stay.

I’ve got quite a few emails & press releases that I meant to blog about but haven’t managed to yet so here is a quick round up of some new sites and projects that I’ve heard about recently.

GreasyPalm have now paid out £5 million in cash back

Director Paul Knapp says,’£5 million in member savings is just the beginning for us. With established media owners utilising our white label services many more savvy consumers will start to enjoy the benefits of cashback shopping.’

What’s particularly interesting is that they have probably earned themselves £5 million over the same period of time. Nice work for an affiliate site

Satish Jayakumar who I know from his espotting days has launched a new project call adjug backed by $2 million from Balderton Capital .

Satish said “It’s like a bit like a stock market – advertisers and publishers have total price transparency & control with AdJug. It’s an open system where anyone can trade with anyone. The transparency inspires confidence which allows advertisers and publishers to buy and sell ad space like they have never done before.”

David emailed me about a really interesting site called Pickydomains.com which will help you find a great domain name for a new project.

David said “Basically, we have custmers who deposit 50 bucks to get a cool domain name. Our contributors submit their suggestions and get half ($25) when their domain name is chosen. Otherwise, the money is refunded (hence, no risk)”

Tony let me know about Workcircle’s new affiliate widget which looks pretty impressive.

Tony said “Workcircle’s the largest UK job search engine, and our widget is designed to let site owners display a selection of relevant jobs to their readers, and earn money from clickthroughs”

All four are interesting pieces of news. Any thoughts on the four different companies?
