New Google Layout

I’m seeing a new layout on Google this morning. I’ve seen it like this in brief flashes for months now but it was usually gone after a refresh meaning that the new layout was maybe only on one server but today it seems to be sticking to the layout below.

I’m a bit concerned about my PPC advertising if this layout is here to stay. There now only seem to be 3 ads shown above the fold which means that the click through rate (CTR) for these ads is bound to increase and make it much harder to progress from 4th place to 3rd. Another 3 ads are shown at the foot of the page below the 10 organic results but I’m sure 4th place is now going to get a lot less clicks than is used to. I don’t normally push my ads to appear in the top 2 places as I’m generally content with the traffic I get from being near the top of the right hand side of ads but now these have gone!

The other searches Images, Groups etc are now going to get a lot more attention so we should probably be looking at a strategy for appearing in some of these as well.

I’m still getting sponsered links on right hand side when I google a search. I don’t like the thought of the ‘new’ layout much at all.
