Now Booked For Affiliate Summit
I have everything in place now for Affiliate Summit West in January and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m hoping to meet people who are active in the industry in the US as well as enjoying the time with the rapidly growing group from the UK. I should be packing some equipment for podcasting and probably the camcorder too so I can offer a taste of the event for those that don’t make it.
If you are from the UK arrangements are being discussed over at a4u and you can also join the UK group on the Affiliate Summit Social Network.

Hey Fraser -
Have you decided on a song you’ll be singing at the Affiliate Jam Session and Sing-a-Long?
It’s the first evening of the conference and we’ll have musicians to back you up as you sing to the crowd!

Only that song from the movie Benny & Joon — 500 Miles.

Well that’s a start! To be honest though if you had ever heard me sing you wouldn’t be asking your original question.
I’ll be looking forward to hearing everyone else though.

Hi Fraser,
I’ll be at the summit as well, I look forward to meeting you. I’ve been there before, so a couple tips:
1. Stay at the host hotel. It is sooo much easier.
2. Book your hotel early, it fills up fast.
3. Bring at least 500 cards, and some cough drops (you’ll need them from all the people you meet and networking you’ll do)

Hi Michael – thanks for the tips. I have number 1 in place. Number 2 is a great point and we nearly missed out.
Although I was surprised at tip number 3 – would you really recommend that number of cards? I normally get through about 10 in a full day event. Maybe I have a lot to learn!

In my opinion, you cannot have too many. One thing that many master networkers preach is to get a new batch of cards made up for each show you attend.
It’s relatively cheap to get them printed, so get a bunch and network like crazy.
If you dread having to type in all of the information from the cards you collect, there will be a booth in the exhibit hall from CardScan.com that will scan your cards for free and put them into a spreadsheet.
Also, after you have all of those cards, do something with them. Lots of folks let them pile into mountains on their desks. Make an effort to stand out by contacting each person and maybe send some little promo item to stand out in their minds.

Fraser,
Yes, I went through 300 last time, and will have a second person
with me this time. You will not run out of people to talk to at this event, especially since you are coming as an affiliate.
Shawn,
Card Scan is an excellent addition to the Summit. I almost dread coming home with a briefcase full of cards because I have to scan them in.
