Podcast Survey Results

A while back I did a survey to get some more information about the which direction the podcast should go. I published some of the results earlier but here are some extracts from the rest of the feedback.

What is good about the podcasts?

  • “Everything!! - you have interviewed some of the key people in the industry and they have all had something useful to contribute”
  • “Hearing other people’s enthusiasm for affiliate marketing.”
  • “Personalities of the people being interviewed come forward together with real knowledge of the industry”
  • “They are easy to listen to, better than reading, good to listen to in the car or on an MP3 player or mobile phone.”
  • What is bad about the podcasts?

  • “I didn’t realise how old I was until I heard all those young people being interviewed. Sound quality of the intervewees is sometimes not very good.”
  • “Occasionally there can be a static pop on the audio which hurts when im on the headphones.”
  • “Sometimes the volume levels seem a bit quiet or the music can over power your voice on the intros.”
  • “There are some sound issues, but that’s just a case of getting the right balance. I have to say the last one did come across a little bit “advertty” and personally I’d have liked a few hard hitting questions ;o)”
  • Please suggest any future guests or subjects that you would like to hear about

  • “Get some of the poor quality networks and grill them about their setup and lack of feedback.”
  • “I’d like to hear some more discussion of issues, news etc. rather than just straight interviews.”
  • “Perhaps a pic of people you interview on the website so people know what they look like. People don’t often know what industry figures look like.”
  • “some people from a pay per click agency, brand management agency etc. on how they view and work with affiliates and how they see the future search engine space operating with regard to them and affiliates.”
  • “More affiliates please. Also would be nice to hear some network reps talking about specific programs or groups of programs eg Travel programs or Telecoms, consumer electronics, etc.”
  • Would you be willing to pay to listen to the podcasts and if so what price would you consider reasonable?

  • “£1 a podcast? £10 for a years subscription?”
  • “0 none ;-)”
  • “Personally I think they would be better staying free but I recognise you need to monetise them - as an alternative to charging for them have you considered selling a couple of advertising jingles to merchants/networks and intersperse them into the podcast”
  • “would rather pay a subscription to access all content rather than a fee per podcast, depends on the depth and true relevance and potential value to me but anything from £10 to £20 a month would be cool to start at one new podcast per week minimum.

I don’t think £5 for 30 minutes insight into an aspect affecting affiliate marketing is unreasonable”

  • Summary

That’s just a taste of the varied responses I received and it will help to shape where I go with the podcast in 2007 so it’s a big Thank You to those who took the time to reply. The podcast has got off to a good start this year but there is so much more I would like to achieve and I have plans in place to cover some of the requests above.

Anyone have any other feedback to share?

    p.s.

Does anyone have any comments on the second half of the interview with Nicky Iapino? The first half generated lots of feedback and the second half has been downloaded lots but there are no comments….
