Revenue Magazine – May/June Edition
I meant to blog about Revenue Magazine a while back but I didn’t manage to get enough time to finish reading it before now. I think you can get a digital subscription free if you want to read it online but I prefer having the actual magazine to read.
It’s fantastic to have a magazine devoted to affiliate marketing so it makes for a good read. I answered a few questions for an article in this issue about affiliate marketing having no borders so that was good although they didn’t manage to mention the blog URL and I got called Edwards which seemed weird!
Other main articles covered Web 2.0, Reputation Management, Politics & Virtual Worlds so there was a good mix of longer articles to get your teeth into. There are heaps of little snippets of news in the magazine but I think that kind of stuff would work better on a blog as generally it’s just enough information to get you interested but then you would need to go online to follow it up and the appeal of a real magazine is that you can read it on the bus on the way to work etc
The magazine is quite heavy on advertising but I only managed to spot one ad from a UK network and that was buy.at which I guess makes sense with the move into the US underway.
I also have to admit to being quite amused that one of the book reviews was for Dreamweaver 4 for Dummies which must be over 6 years old! Not sure how that one slipped in there. However one of the other books was about facebook so that seems much more relevant at the moment.
Overall the maazine is well worth a read although it does understandably have a strong focus on the US market so probably appeals more to affiliates with an interest there.

What did you think of the last article in the magazine:
Web Crawler: British Invasion
The U.K. is the place to be and everyone from LinkShare execs to the Affiliate Summit conference crew to yours truly is crossing the pond.

Too bad it’s not online yet. Have to wait until the next issue comes out, before this one is online.
I only skimmed this issue – what was the article title that you were quoted in?

To be honest I think the last article is trying to stir up trouble where there isn’t any. It seems daft to be giving the a4uexpo guys a hard time on the basis of an anonymous rumour. That attitude it talks about certainly isn’t one that I have seen any evidence of.
I’m quoted near the end of the article called No Borders, page 36 onwards. It’s not exactly my best quote though!

I’d encourage you all to send notes to editor@revenuetoday.com with what they’d like to see in future issues.

Thanks Shawn, I’ll give it some thought and send an email if I can think of any good subjects.
I was wondering what you think about The Spider’s comments? Do you see a4uexpo and Affiliate Summit as competing with or complimenting each other?

Hi Fraser -
I think the events compliment one another. In my opinion, people will see that each event has it’s own personality and there is room for both.
I don’t think it’s constructive to create drama where there is none.
I respect Matt, I belong to the a4uexpo affiliate program, and I’ll be promoting it.

Great – that’s exactly how I guessed you would see it but it’s all the better to hear it from you. Thanks Shawn

Not wanting to sound a plonker – can you pick this magazine up at the local WH Smiths or a specialist order? I need some fun reading for the bathroom after the dreadful Apprentice magazine.

Hi Dio – I’ve never seen it in a shop over here and had to just set up my subscription directly on the Revenue magazine website.

I’d guess you might find it in large branches of Borders? I know the one in Oxford St has a good selection of specialist titles from overseas so I might have a look in there for it. Come to think of it, I used to order a US magazine from a plain old local corner-shop newsagent so it might be as simple as asking for it to be ordered in.

It is a great magazine, true a bit biased towards the US market but ideas can be applied anywhere. Online marketing does not know much international barriers. Cara
