Revenue Magazine

Revenue Magazine is now two years old. I’m not sure how I first managed to get a subscription to this magazine as I never paid for it but must have managed to get signed up to have the first year posted to me and now I get it in a sort of ebook form which isn’t quite as good.

However the content is pretty good although it is fairly US focussed which may affect it’s usefulness for a UK affiliate. The current issue has articles on the current state of online marketing, podcasting, fitness website, rejecting affiliates, RSS, online tax, changing network and a few others. It’s certainly a good mix of issues, spread over 120 pages although there are a fair amount of those filled with advertising.

The article about merchants rejecting affiliates is certainly an interesting one and it’s that seems particularly relevant for a UK affliate applying to programs in the US. Revenue take a look at this issue firstly from the point of view of coupon sites being denied and merchants being worried about their brand. The other issue is merchants being worried that affiliate PPC is going to interfere with their own. The best quote that captures my point of view on the issue however is from Vinny Lingham

“In reality, if we or any other super-affiliates are not working for your company, we’re building your competitor’s business and market share instead”

It’s exactly true. When I try to find a merchant in a specific sector on CJ, for examples Toys and one merchant is set up to auto-reject me just because I’m not in the US then you can be sure that another toy merchant is going to get the benefit of that.

Anyway I didn’t start out to have a rant about that but maybe it’s worth having a read of Revenue!
