The Break Up - A True Story About Advertising

This is a great video that Sam Harrelson suggested over at his new blog Affiliate Fortune Cookies. If you have any interest in affiliate marketing be sure to keep an eye on Affiliate Fortune Cookies.

The Break Up
Uploaded by geertdesager

Advertising is changing and most people haven’t even noticed yet.

On the way to the office today I was listening to the NMA podcast for April which led with the news that online advertising was worth £2bn last year in the UK which is 11.4% of all advertising revenue. In some ways it’s an amazing statistic but for me the best observation was from Mark Cridge from Glue London who wondered what was happening with the other 88.6% of money spent on advertising.

As in the video above is the rest of the money being spent talking at people who don’t want to listen?

Interesting advert. Could this be applied to changing the names of the t-shirts. Advertiser > Network & Consumer > Affiliate and other possible variations.

Moose - yeah I think that it could well be applied to Networks & Advertisers and how some of them are getting to be out of touch with what is going on.

I think it’s refreshing to see advertisers asking the consumer what’s best, as with Geert’s blog (that focuses on this video).

My skepticism hopes it’s the start of things to come from many others.

Thanks for the comment David - I hadn’t actually visited Geert’s blog before so I’ll have a read now.

I’ve been enjoying your blog for a while now!
