I just made one for OS X using Amnesty. Personally, I'm not a big fan of desktop widgets, or desktop anything for that matter. I never see my desktop beneath the three dozen windows I always seem to have going. I don't consider myself the average PC user, though. I'm guessing that our target user has much simpler computing habits. Personally, I’m not a big fan of desktop widgets, or desktop anything for that matter.
I never see my desktop beneath the three dozen windows I always seem to have going.

I don’t consider myself the average PC user, though. I’m guessing that our target user has much simpler computing habits. If I watch my mother and daughter use Windows, they seem to close windows before moving on to something else.

I think with all new versions, it takes a good couple of weeks to bed in and for the user to get used to the new way of working. I do however like the idea of adding Bumpzee widgets to the side of the desktop. I think they will start off as a gimmick, but given time they will become a necessity. One of the best decisions i've made - very easy to install, easy to use, loads of open souce applications that work perfectly and extremely user friendly. The widgets support looks nice though - would love to get that working on my desktop so will keep an eye out. If you continue to get annoyed with Vista you should give ubuntu a try.
