Yahoo to follow Google’s lead
A few years after Google first introduced the paid search model which took click through rate into account, Yahoo are now following. Here is part of an email I’ve just received
Both bid amount and ad quality will determine an ad’s rank in search results the week commencing July 23rd, 2007.
This will replace the current method, in which ads are ranked by bid amount only (bid-to-position).
This is designed to allow you to focus less on competitive bidding practices and more on the quality of your ads.
By improving the quality of your ads and making them more relevant to users, you may be rewarded with a better ranking and/or a lower cost for your ads.
I’ve had my Yahoo account upgraded to Panama but I just haven’t had time to experiment with it yet. New interface combined with the ad quality changes looks like it could be an interesting few weeks.

I’m still waiting for my account to be upgraded. I get the feeling that Y! are still trying to play catch-up with Google, and IMO, this update doesn’t go far enough – it merely copies what Google have been trouncing them with for the last 5 years.

Hi,
I really do think that yahoo adopting a performance based approach to ranking PPCs is long overdue. Emphasis on quality rather than how much money you can through at the ads. Gives newbies on a tight budget more of a chance.
My only question is when will Yahoo actually implement this?

There is an element of copying going on with Yahoo! It seems as if they are trying to emulate what Google has already done. Admitedly it must be hard for Yahoo! to come up with improvements which makes it difficult for them to digest. But I do agree that they need to focus on the quality of PPC rather than that amount.
